At just 260 square kilometres, Lake Mburo is Uganda's smallest savannah park, and its location — closer to Kampala than any other national park, roughly 240 kilometres by road — makes it the natural first or last stop on a Uganda circuit rather than a destination in its own right.
Lake Mburo is one of the few Uganda parks where walking safaris and night game drives are permitted, alongside classic vehicle-based game viewing. Zebra, impala, eland and defassa waterbuck are common, and the park's boat safaris on the lake itself offer strong hippo and birding opportunities without the crowds of the Kazinga Channel.
Most itineraries we design treat Lake Mburo as a well-placed overnight break on the long drive between Kampala and Bwindi or Queen Elizabeth, rather than a multi-day stay — though travelers with extra time find the walking safaris and relaxed pace genuinely rewarding on their own merits.
